The predecessor of the School of Electrical Engineering can be traced back to the original Department of Electrical Engineering of the School of Science and Technology of Guangxi University in 1938. The school has two national first-class undergraduate programs: Electrical Engineering and Automation (1938-present) and Automation (1971-present), Guangxi first-class discipline of Electrical Engineering, doctoral program of first-level discipline of Electrical Engineering, postdoctoral research station of Electrical Engineering, master program of first-level discipline of Electrical Engineering, as well as two Professional Master’s Degree Programs: Energy and Power (Electrical Engineering Direction) and Electronic Information (Control Engineering Direction).
The school has a strong faculty, including two national high-level talents, one national high-level young talent, one member of “Hundred Talents Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one expert receiving special government allowances from the State Council, two IET Fellows, one CSEE Fellow, one national model teacher, two national Baosteel Excellent teachers, one Elsevier Most Cited Chinese Researcher, one World’s Top 2% Scientist, two Bagui Scholars, one Bagui Youth Scholar, two Bagui Top Young Talents, one winner of Guangxi Youth Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award, and one winner of Guangxi Youth Science and Technology Award.
A number of teaching and research platforms have been built to ensure the teaching quality: the National-Level Teaching Group of Electrical Engineering and Automation, the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Electrical Engineering Education, the National Virtual Teaching and Research Room for Electrical Engineering and Automation, Guangxi Key Laboratory of Power System Optimization and Energy Technology, Guangxi Key Laboratory of Intelligent Control and Maintenance of Power Equipment, and Guangxi Power Transmission and Distribution Network Lightning Protection Engineering Technology Research Center. The teaching and research buildings cover an area of 21,000 square meters, and the laboratory equipment values 110 million yuan.
The school has made great achievements in teaching and scientific research. In terms of teaching achievements, it encourages and supports teachers to carry out educational and teaching reforms actively, continuously improving the quality of education and teaching in this discipline. At present, the school has won one second prize for national-level teaching achievements, and four first prizes, two second prizes, and three third prizes of teaching achievements in Guangxi. In terms of scientific research achievements, the school has obtained academic achievements with significant international and domestic influence, as well as technological achievements with independent intellectual property rights in the field of electrical engineering, providing technical support and talent reserves for the scientific and technological progress of the power industry in Guangxi, China and ASEAN countries. The school now has undertaken 39 projects sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation, and won the following prizes: one first prize of Guangxi Natural Science Award, two first prizes and one second prize of Guangxi Technology Invention Award, and one first prize and three second prizes of Guangxi Science and Technology Progress Award, etc.
In recent years, the school has been serving the major national strategies and the economic development needsof Guangxi, focusing on four discipline directions: 1. Power system and power information technology; 2. Electric motors, power electronics and new energy generation; 3. Electrical equipment, high voltage and insulation technology; 4. Electrical theory and new technologies (including automatic control, artificial intelligence, robotics, and bioelectromagnetic technology, etc.).
