Professor Hua Wei, Ph.D., Doctoral and Postdoctoral Supervisor, and State Council Special Allowance Expert, studied at Hiroshima University in Japan, where he obtained a Ph.D. in Engineering. He subsequently taught in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Hiroshima University for many years. Prof. Wei has held notable positions such as Vice President of Guangxi University, Deputy Director of the Degree Committee, and Deputy Director of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education. He is a professor at the School of Electrical Engineering at Guangxi University and the Director of the Guangxi Key Laboratory of Power System Optimization and Energy Saving Technology.
As the principal contributor, Professor Wei has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Second Prize of the National Excellent Teaching Achievement Award, the First Prize of the Guangxi Technical Invention Award, the First Prize of the Guangxi Industrial Innovation Competition, and the Special Prize of the Guangxi Excellent Teaching Achievement Award, each once. Additionally, he has been awarded the First Prize of the Guangxi Excellent Teaching Achievement Award twice. He was the inaugural recipient of the Guangxi Higher Education Teaching Master Award and was awarded the honorary title of 2023 High Contribution Scholar in Electrical Engineering of Chinese Universities.
Professor Hua Wei is an esteemed editorial board member of six Chinese and English journals, includingAutomation of Electric Power Systems, andPower System Technology, etc. As the founder of the Power System Optimization Research Institute and the Guangxi Key Laboratory of Power System Optimization and Energy Saving Technology at Guangxi University, he leads a dynamic and collaborative research team composed of young faculty members and doctoral students. His main research interests encompass modern interior point optimization theory and its applications in power systems, such as smart grids, online optimal power flow, optimal coordination of hydrothermal power systems, voltage stability, state estimation, cloud computing, and AI applications in power systems, and cloud dispatch automation systems.
As a principal investigator, Professor Wei has undertaken one sub-project of the National “973” Program, six projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, one major project in Guangxi, and over 20 horizontal projects aimed at national economic construction. He has published over 300 academic papers indexed by SCI/EI, obtained 36 national invention patents, and secured 32 national software copyrights. Prof. Wei has successfully applied modern interior point theory to power grids in six provinces under the State Grid Corporation of China and four under the China Southern Power Grid. His expertise has also been extended internationally, serving the national Belt and Road Initiative with applications to the national power grid of Sudan in Africa, resulting in significant economic and social benefits.
